#0041: ReStory Repair Challenge

Preamble
With my leisure time I recently completed my first play-through of a video-game that came out this earlier this month (August 2026) named ReStory. In it you play as a repair technician in 2000’s Akihabara Tokyo Japan. Whose job it is to repair consumer electronics for the public. Including devices such as mobile phones, games consoles, electronic toys, and personal computers.
This inspired me to see if I can do this in real life. Can I – a crappy hobbyist repair tech actually manage to fix every item that is represented in this game?
The structure of the challenge I find appealing; a distinct and discrete list of consumer electronics to get through. No more, no less. I will even follow the game’s protagonist methodology of buying broken devices from the internet to then repair for resale (or shop decoration 😉 ).

Technical notes
- game name: “ReStory: Chill Electronics Repairs”
- release date: 2026-08-06
- game version: 1.0.013r
- repairable devices: 29
ReStory Repair Challenge rules
Now that the fluff is out of the way. To the rules themselves:
1) To win the challenge one must repair every device featured in ReStory (v1.0).
1.a) There are 29 total devices across various categories, and they are listed below.
2) Alternative to repairing a faulty device: performing a full disassembly & reassembly of a working device counts as a successful repair.
3) Device substitutions can be made providing there is a good reason for it.
3.a) E.g. I have a near-enough device and don’t want to buy the specific device listed.
3.b) E.g. working on a Nintendo DS Lite, instead of an original Nintendo DS.
4) To consider a device completed, an article of the work must be published here, and linked below.

Commentary
This article is going to be updated slowly as the constituent articles are published and linked here. Additionally I do not intend to add more devices to this challenge, as ReStory updates – adding more content to their game. There is no explicit time limit to complete this challenge, however I would like it done by the end of 2028. Challenge start 21st August 2026. I will pin this article, as it is an ongoing project.
